Sector Knowledge - Digital Transformation
Banking & Finance
With a background as one of the first Barclays graduate fast track managers, our co-founder Ian went on to manage the infrastructure and server estate for the Royal Bank of Scotland corporate banking (NW) – 53 centres as well as service centres for over 3 years. Ian also designed a complete network solution for the direct insurance companies, Prospero Insurance and British Engine Insurance in the mid 1990’s. Ian went on to manage the Y2K switch over for the RBS corporate estate before managing the RBS/Natwest infrastructure merger connectivity in 2000. In more recent years Ian led a number of major cloud migration programmes for UBS bank on behalf of M&W.
Airlines & Travel
Our co-founder led the worldwide Novell design and deployment of city, airport and cargo offices for Cathay Pacific Airways. Based out of Singapore and Hong Kong, Ian went on to lead the highly complex deployments for Europe and the USA, including Schipol Airport Amsterdam, JFK Terminal 7 New York, Toronto International Airport, San Francisco new International Airport, Chicago O’Hare Airport and Anchorage Airport Alaska. Ian also designed a digital collaborative strategy for Virgin Atlantic Airways and more recently designed the digital brand for Highlight Tours Europe. M&W has continued to consult in this sector with digital workplace strategies for airline suppliers based out of Gatwick, UK.
Manufacturing and Engineering
Over the years M&W had worked closely with the UK Microsoft Manufacturing team and advised and delivered solutions to a range of clients in this sector. This has included a complete digital workplace, internal marketing and collaboration solution for RPC Group, one of the world’s largest plastic manufacturers as well as the UK’s leading sign manufacturers, Rolls Royce PLC on global, digital collaborative strategy and other leaders in this field.
UK Government
Our co-founder, Ian worked with the Environment Agency in the 1990’s in their group e-directory design before leading the first major Microsoft-based infrastructure and digital refresh for a central Government department, the Foods Standards Agency with Meat Hygiene Service. this led to the first Microsoft Government case study in this arena, focusing on the speed of transformation to new technologies. In the mid 2010’s M&W went on to become an authorized vendor on the highly selective UK Government G-Cat 7 procurement service to 640 Government departments and advised those including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in digital workplace strategy.
Public Sector & Higher Education
Ian, as New Technology Director at a London university, led this large institution through a major technology refresh for four years, which in turn led to multiple leading vendor and Microsoft case studies. M&W went on to advise numerous borough and county councils for Microsoft on digital workplace strategy, presented for Microsoft as the keynote on digital collaboration strategy to UCISA, the UK Higher Education technology body and were guest speakers for Microsoft Education.
Oil & Gas
M&W advised Gazprom Oil on digital strategy before working with Afren Oil on transforming their organisation with a new group digital workplace solution. M&W have also advised other major energy companies on digital transformation including nuclear and energy businesses.
Police Forces
M&W developed the first Microsoft cloud compliance solutions for UK police officers. We also ran digital event management solution strategy sessions for the Metropolitan Police in advance of the 2012 Olympics.
Non-Profit
M&W developed a complete digital workplace and collaboration solution for Turning Point, a leading non profit organisation, seeking to grow its business as an enhanced digital collaboration organisation.
Food & Beverage
M&W led the development of an international digital workplace, collaboration and asset management solution for SAB Miller, one of the world’s leading beverage companies with over 200 beer brands. We also led the development of a new company-wide knowledge management solution. Working with Reckitt–Benckiser we helped develop their digital collaboration strategy, running key strategy sessions. With GPS Food Group we designed and delivered a company wide digital cloud solution for the group.
Logistics & Transport
We designed and delivered a complete strategic online digital solution for Access World, the world’s leading metal’s logistics company. We also provided digital marketing solutions for their team, based in Switzerland and Singapore. M&W also provided digital strategies for the Automobile Association.
Recruitment
M&W has worked with leading Recruiters such as Hays in an international capacity on digital strategy and digital solution deployments. We have also run strategic sessions for multiple recruiter clients to assist in the development of recruiter consulting capabilities.
3rd Party Vendors
Working as agency, partner and business client, M&W has extensive experience of vendor supply and management over three decades. Handling procurement within Central Government deployments, tending to Government and public sector, selecting strategic partners, contract management, licensing and supply, negotiation and working with international partner teams for digital solution development has led us to become experts in vendor strategy and alliances. M&W was itself a gold partner of Microsoft. Some of our work has led to published worldwide vendor case studies.
Learning & Development
Our co-founders have worked with numerous learning and development organisations. Ian was a professional technology trainer in the early 1990’s covering around 40 courses, including course-ware development and one of only around 200 Novell Certified Instructors in the world. Ian went on to be a freelance network trainer and has produced digital user guides throughout his career to major audiences worldwide. This has included books, publications, keynote speeches for Microsoft, higher education training guides, digital training content and other e-learning assets. In the 2010’s M&W developed a complete online digital Practitioner certification programme and associated digital course-ware and exams which were used by organisations such as the Portuguese Government, Dell computers and consultants worldwide. In more recent times Ian trained a global stakeholder audience for UBS bank in a digital knowledge solution on behalf of M&W.
Mergers & Acquisitions
Our co-founders have been involved in a number of merger scenarios. In 2000 Ian handled the digital estate analysis of Natwest Bank for the Royal Bank of Scotland before managing the early infrastructure connectivity between the two banks as they commenced their merger. In 2002 M&W sold an early online digital marketing company to the USA. By 2019 M&W twice went through a complete international M&A process with digital intellectual property.
